Okay, let discuss the environment. What do you think about “green cars”? Is this just a trend? Is it a quick way to make a fast buck by preying on people’s fears of leaving a carbon footprint? Well regardless of people suspicions we all need to watch our consumption and what we put out into the environment. There have been a many hybrid vehicles on the road in recent years, it is good to see this transformation on the roads, because it means we care about the environment, but are these other companies jumping on the environmental “band-wagon”?
Honda has been manufacturing parts that were environmentally friend for decades. Check below…
Here’s a little fact that you may not have known: “Since 1972, Honda has manufactured only four-stroke outboard motors, which are about 90% cleaner, 50% more fuel-efficient and 50% quieter than typical two-stroke outboard motors that can release oil into the water.”

So again, what do you think about “green cars”? Are they here to stay? Or are “green cars” just a phase?
Is Honda Canada following the trend? Perhaps not…. Here is Honda’s Environment Statement issued in 1992: “As a responsible member of society whose task lies in the preservation of the global environment, our company will make every effort to contribute to human health and the preservation of the global environment in each phase of its corporate activity. Only in this way will we be able to count on a successful future not only for our company, but for the entire world.”
And since then, Honda Canada teamed up with various environmental organizations such as Tree Canada, Nature Canada, Earth Rangers, and Clean Air Champions. Once again it is refreshing to discover another aspect of a corporation that are not always seen in the general public.
Of course not all of us are “green thumbs” and have a house with solar panels on our roof (not that there’s is anything wrong with that, if you can do that, than do it) but at least next time you’re looking to purchase a car and you think about a Honda, just know that you will lighten your carbon footprint.
On the topic of Honda vehicles, this is the new 2010 Honda Insight
Check out these reviews on the 2010 Honda Insight from Canadian Driver, and two reviews from Newmarket Honda website (first article and second article)
This is the new Honda FCX Clarity (Honda’s Hydrogen car) another Earth friendly vehicle by Honda.
How the Honda FCX Clarity works…
To power the electric engine, the Clarity uses fuels cells that deliver 100 kWh of energy. These are supported by the rear batteries, which produce the same amount of power. All that with only 5,000 lbs of hydrogen pressure. This is what really sets the Clarity apart, as its rivals need as much as 10,000 lbs to produce the same power and ensure the same operating range. But the FCX Clarity is only available as a test version in Japan and America.
The next few years, we’ll probably see a lot more of this “Green Cars”, so hopefully we are making the Earth a better, cleaner place.
Well until next time, drive safe!
